Flight Cycle

2020-2021

Why on earth can a bird fly – how does it work? I have always been an avid bird watcher and have captured numerous videos and photos of birds in various situations – at rest, in flocks, and in flight. I wanted to understand how the anatomy works, how it is possible for it to fly. I analyzed these videos, sketching the different phases of their movements and studying how the joints interacted. This led me to identify a repeating pattern in their flight. I then mapped these distinct phases onto 24 frames, creating a sequence where one complete flight cycle lasts one second. When played on a loop, it creates the illusion of a bird in continuous flight.
